Caravanning: Not Just for Gypsies

posted on 12 March 2012

Caravanning is a brilliant British holiday idea. Going abroad is expensive, stressful, and you'll most likely end up with a sun burn. On the other hand, you have companies like Go European who can help you out with a motorhome for sale or hire, and you can have your own staycation in a motorhome/caravan! For a couple grand you can buy yourself a motorized home away from home, and have endless holidays without even leaving your country's borders. The only thing you'll need to pay for is the food! I've been on a caravan holiday every year since I was 7, and i'm still not tired of it. Although you may not sound like it, my favorite experience was the summer of 2010, I was 15. We had driven for 4 hours, winding down country b-roads and stony lanes to finally arrive in the middle of a field filled with cows. This was where we would be staying. It was already getting dark so we decided to put up the awning and just cook dinner on the stove (we were planning on finding a pub). However, the effort of putting up the awning tired us out, and so we fell asleep before the sausages had fully defrosted. Fast forward to the next morning and I wake up to find my my mother screaming to high hell at a young fox cub that had snuck in during the night and was currently working his way through our uncooked sausages! I begged to keep him, but sadly to no avail and within the hour he had eaten his fill and left us. Just a small anecdote from an all-round great trip, but definitely one that will stick with me for a long time.
